Marine Camp 2010

Me and my squid that was fatally dissected.

Our Experiences

Matt - Although i had  been there before it was a highlight experience - my favourite part was the guitar on Quarantine Island. The dissection was different to say the least and wasn't the most pleasant experience that i've ever had. The discovery of a flatworms was exhilerating and thrilling experience. I wish i could go back next year but i will be in high school. The TOP Highlight from the camp was having a mini arguement with Steve on the presentation day.

Amy- This was the first ever time i had been to Marine Camp and my highlight was Quarantine Island. I loved experimenting with all the marine life and testing all the different tools used to do different tests.
I have to say i am so looking forward to coming back next year and i hope it's an even better camp than this year.

Sam- This was the second time i had been to marine camp. I think i enjoyed this camp better than last years camp. I think that because the other one you had to do a lot of work in a short period of time.
The thing i enjoyed most was dissecting the crab and squid because i mashed up the crab and it was mushed up.

Romy- This was the second time I had been to Marine Camp but I think it was funner than last year because we had a better topic. I was in a group called The Ninja Crabs and we were studying flatworms. They are more in teresting than they sound! Some highlights for me was staying on Quarantine island, going on the research boat and the Sleepover programme at the aquarium. I think Marine Camp was fun, and I learnt a lot!

Adriana- this is the first time I have been on marine camp and I LOVED it. the best part for me was when the the group I was in studied about flat worms (flat worms are the cutest worms ever)and they are so interesting. I also had a good time when we stayed over at Quarintine Island . I had a great time and I'm looking forward to next year!!!!!

Emma-Being the second time i had been to Marine i thought i knew EXACTLY what to expect. It started off pretty much the same, except we had these little booklets and note pad that we didnt have last time. We did some dissecting in the lab which was similar to last year instead we did crabs not sharks. But i was suprised when Steve told us to put our life jackets on so early in the day. That was when all the new experiences started! First it was a trip on a really awesome boat that we got to go inside of. We looked at all these fecinating gadgets that were inside and played the most EXTREME game of i spy EVER outside.Staying at Quarintine island was great and our foot plays really 'Rocked the boat' (get it!!!Private Joke)Getting our mentors the next day was really awesome, and our team (Ninja Crabs) were soon right into getting our study up and running. We were studying flat worms and it was really funny watching these little worms squirming around looking for a rock to hide under. Our presentation was really successful and i was really pleased with our end resut!!!!!

Harry- This was my first time on this camp and it was great. My highlight was probably our groups experiment. I was in the group "Navy Seals" and our experiment was called snails and parasites. In the first experiment we put 3 snails in 1 dish and 10 dishes in 1 box. We had to leave them in different temperatures and light. After 1 hour and a half we checked on them under the microscope and recorded each dish-they either had none, some, few or lots. In all we had 9 boxes. We found that the parasites came out of the snail the best in complete light and at a temperature from 18-24c. the next experiment was to see what harbors were more infected. we used the same method and got our result. this was probably the best school camp I have ever been on-IT WAS FUN
